Exciting Musical Adventures at OPAC

In the Music Classroom

We are back into the swing of things at OPAC with Year 7s learning how to remix songs using the online DAW BandLab. As part of this they’ve learnt about loops, samples, and covers.

Year 8 are learning about Australia’s colonial history from the perspective of folk music. What is a folk song? What are many Australian folk songs about? Later in the term Year 8 students will write their own folk songs that reflect the brave men and women who trailblazed and sacrificed to make Australia the successful country it is.

Outside the Classroom

Congratulations to our Junior School ensembles for their lunchtime performances in Week 9 of last term. The students sang and played with smiles on their faces for their friends. We also congratulate the Year 5 String Ensemble and the Junior Concert Band for their debut performances at the Recognition Assembly on the last day of school in Term 2. The string group played Sword Dance and the concert band played Tyrannosaurus Rocks which features a screaming dinosaur played by one of our tutors, Mr Dollin.

The Performing Arts faculty is grateful to the school community for its support of our trivia night on Saturday night. We had 185 people register to take part in the trivia and many helpers who made the night the success it was.

was raised to support the senior ensemble students for their tour of the Gold Cost in November.
