Music at Open Day

Last Saturday at Open Day our talented music students performed a variety of pieces, showing off their hard work and dedication. Visitors had the chance to see firsthand the amazing talent within our school community. It was a day filled with music, excitement, and school spirit.

The Senior Concert Band impressed everyone with their fantastic performances. They played Highlights from Home Alone, Themyscira, and March of the Belgian Paratroopers, demonstrating their skill and teamwork. Our Senior School Choir also delivered outstanding performances, singing The Storm is Passing Over and Banaha, a traditional Congolese folk song. The Senior Stage Band crooned a variety of pieces throughout the day too. They brought warmth and harmony to the event with their renditions of some of the most beloved jazz songs of all time. It was wonderful to see students sharing their love for music with others.

Visitors also had the chance to see students in action as they worked on key scenes, songs, and choreography for this year’s school production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. These workshops showcased the dedication and enthusiasm of our performers as they prepared for what promises to be an incredible show. The energy in the room was contagious, and it was wonderful to share a glimpse of the production process with our school community.

Finally, the Senior School Choir students were led in a classroom music demonstration for our visitors. The students showed visitors how they learn music using Orff instruments, which include xylophones, metallophones, and percussion instruments. These instruments help students develop their rhythm, coordination, and teamwork while making music fun and engaging. Visitors enjoyed watching the choir perform and learning about the creative ways music is taught in our school.

A huge thank you to all the students and Performing Arts staff who came in on Saturday to support our school. Their efforts in performing, workshopping, and leading ensembles made a big difference. We are so proud of their commitment to serving the school community. Their hard work and generosity truly showcased the spirit of our school.

Exciting New Musical Ensemble – Keyboard Club!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new musical ensemble at our school – Keyboard Club! This exciting new group is open to students from Year 6 to Year 10 who have experience playing the piano. It is a great opportunity for young pianists to come together, develop their skills, and explore ensemble playing in a fun and supportive environment. If your child enjoys playing the piano, this is the perfect chance for them to get involved!

Keyboard Club will be led by Mr. Jack Hollis, one of our talented piano tutors. With his guidance, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with other pianists and explore a variety of musical styles and technologies. Being part of an ensemble will help students improve their timing, listening skills, and confidence as performers. Whether your child plays for fun or is working towards exams, this club will be a fantastic learning experience.

Meetings will take place once a week during a lunchtime in our brand-new state of the art 24-station keyboard lab. More details about the meeting day and cost will be shared soon. We encourage students who are currently taking piano lessons to join, as this will complement their learning and give them valuable ensemble experience. The club promises to be both enjoyable and rewarding for all involved.

If you are interested in your child joining Keyboard Club, please contact Mr. Chavura to express your interest. We look forward to seeing our talented pianists come together to make music and have fun! Stay tuned for more updates as we get ready to start this exciting new group.

God bless,
