An Inspiring Journey to the Bronze Award
This week we are highlighting one of our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students, Sienna B. Sienna has nearly completed her Bronze Award, and within the next few weeks will surely achieve this goal. Here is a summary of Sienna’s DoE participation in 2024.
Sienna has been logging the hours she spends playing and training for netball as her Physical Recreation component. One of the best parts of the Award is how it fits into many students preexisting schedules, and Sienna has made the most of that. Her goal was to improve her fitness and technical skills in netball which was surely been achieved through the various skills she has practiced throughout the year and how she has implemented these into game situations.
Sienna has also been learning the piano, engaging in weekly lessons and practice at home. Through diligent practice she made light work of the required hours for this section, deciding to make this her major and thus doubling the number of hours required.
Sienna has also been serving selflessly at OSH club in the afternoons as her voluntary service component. Here she has helped with craft, serving food and playing with the students. The OSH club staff have raved about her selfless attitude and commitment to this service and it really is a testament to Sienna for being so consistent in giving of herself.
When asked about what she has enjoyed about completing the DoE program this year Sienna said, “the best things about completing DoE was trying new things such as volunteering at the after school care as well as completing the hike with a positive group of friends.”
She also said that the hike was a challenge and tested her fitness and resilience. It has been great to see you grow this year Sienna and approach the Bronze Award in such a mature manner. Well done!
God bless,
