Year 9 Students Begin Their Bronze Award
At the start of this term, our Year 9 students set out on an exciting adventure as part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. The students headed to Camp Sommerset for their practice adventurous journey, a key component of the program that helps them develop important outdoor skills and prepare for future challenges.
The Practice Journey component takes place at Year 9 camp, with students electing to participate in the DoE stream. Here they learned the essential basics of camping, including how to set up tents, cook in the wild, and navigate through the great outdoors. These skills are vital for their journey as they work toward achieving their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors and OPAC staff members, students honed their team-building abilities while working together to manage tasks like meal preparation, setting up camp, and navigating their route. They also participated in several challenging activities that tested their resilience and ability to adapt to the outdoor environment. It was an excellent opportunity for them to develop independence and confidence in a supportive, fun setting.
This adventure not only gave students the practical skills needed for their future expeditions but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and achievement.
Students will now work towards commencing the other aspects of the Award. This entails choosing a Physical Recreation, Skill and Voluntary Service.
We look forward to hearing about the continued success and growth of these students as they work toward completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award!
God bless,
Mr Rohan Miller
